Listen Live! The 49ers are 1-2 and will be taking on the 0-2 Kansas City Chiefs in Kansas city. Kansas City's offense has been strong for the last several seasons, but now the defense is beginning to emerge as a solid unit with an experienced secondary and a solid cover 2 scheme.
When the 49ers have the ball:With the lack of bulk on the starting defensive line, look for the 49ers to run up the middle repeatedly to force the Chiefs to adjust and bring an 8th man into the box. As the game progresses Alex Smith will see more opportunities to throw the ball as passing lanes open up.
Controlling the clock and limiting turnovers are the keys to success here.
On Defense:Larry Johnson is one of the top backs in the NFL today, the 49ers just don't have the talent to shut him down completely. Solid tackling and limiting his gains will keep him from taking over the game. The more the Chiefs pass the ball, the better chance the 49ers have for generating turnovers and keeping the game in hand.
Overall:This is a very winnable game for the 49ers if they can limit their mistakes. The offense not turning the ball over and the defense wrapping up and not allowing long gains will go a long way today.
