Norv Turner to the Chargers

Monday, February 19, 2007 | Niner Cap Hell

Various sources have reported that Norv Turner has accepted the terms to take over the San Diego Chargers' head coaching job.

This loss definitely hurts the 49ers, as Alex Smith was starting to develop under Turner in his offense and will now be under his third offensive coordinator in three years. Receivers coach and Senior Assistant Jerry Sullivan may be the next in line to succeed Turner. Sullivan has been an offensive coordinator for only one season of his career but has a great resume developing impressive receivers like Herman Moore, Tony Martin, Anthony Miller, Johnnie Morton, David Boston and Anquan Boldin. Other possibilities could include Bengals QB coach Ken Zampese, son of Turner's mentor Ernie Zampese; or perhaps a return to the Walsh offense with ex-49ers head coach Steve Mariucci or former Giants head coach Jim Fassel.

This is a huge loss for the Niners, Alex Smith was finally coming into his comfort zone with a new coordinator then it's snatched right from under him. I hope the Bolts don't make the playoffs and are eternally damned to hell!

The niners are just going to have to deal with it. It is what it is is.
