No Zampese for You!

One less option in the wake of
Norv's leaving...
"
(Ken) Zampese is under contract, and word around the Bengals organization is head coach
Marvin Lewis would not let Zampese out of his deal because of the timing. It is simply too late in the process of getting ready for the 2007 season."
LinkZampese was the top choice in the minds of many to become the next offensive coordinator, other names still being thrown around are
Steve Mariucci,
Jim Fassel, 49ers WR coach
Jerry Sullivan and TE coach
Pete Hoener.
In Free Agency news, remove
Dwight Freeney (Colts),
Charles Grant (Saints) and
Shaun Phillips (Chargers) from your wish lists. Freeney and Grant have been slapped with franchise designations by their respective teams, and Phillips was extended through 2012 today. All three projected well into potential 3-4 roles - Phillips already one of the better 3-4 OLBs in the league after his first season starting; Freeney having the pass rushing ability, intellect and athleticism ideal for 3-4 OLB while Grant's size, strength and two-gap ability ideal for 3-4 DE. That leaves
Adalius Thomas (Ravens) and
Nate Clements (Bills) as the biggest names left on the free agency market and both are reportedly unlikely to be franchised.
