Ouch, totally undeserved fellas. A guy that ranks up 123 tackles in each of his first 9 seasons, 5 with us, deserves a little more respect. I can't believe you're letting his poor performances that past two seasons and obvious decline in speed taint your memory of him as an effective veteran leader and solid run tackler in the middle in what were lower than average teams. Have a little respect for the man. The 49ers made the right move and have new talent to come in and the cap space will be nice. But don't stab him in the back like that. |

Brian, you are right he is a nice guy, but look at the record he has given the 49ers over the past 2-4 years and the millions spent on him. I hope another teams picks him up, but it is time to let him go. |

Over 100 tackles a year, and leading the team in tackles every healthy year is not mediocre. Derek Smith is a total team player and it took a medical setback to slow him down. Nothing was wasted here. |

Tuesday was a great day the mullet man has been cut. Just because u get a lot of tackles per season doesnt make u a great player he was slow and couldnt tackle. |

No class with your comment. Smith has given his all. It was time for us to move on, but he certainly was not mediocre prior to 2007. If your comment was about Brandon Whiting or Willie Middlebrooks I would agree. Your site now has no credibility and has been deleted from my favorites. |
