Spikes to visit Thursday; Dilfer terminated

Wednesday, March 12, 2008 | Niner Cap Hell

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported that former All Pro linebacker Takeo Spikes has a visit planned for Thursday. Spikes, the 13th pick of the 1998 draft, was traded to the Eagles last season, where he made 86 tackles and 1 sack but ended on IR after tearing his rotator cuff. He was released this offseason. He has not been able to rediscover his dominance after tearing his achilles tendon in 2005. If signed, the 31 year old will probably compete for the TED spot next to Patrick Willis with Brandon Moore and Dontarrious Thomas.

Trent Dilfer has been released by the 49ers. Expect him to become a full-time commentator for the NFL Network if he doesn't end up with another team. The team saved $1 million in cap space.

Marques Douglas has signed a 4-year deal with the Buccaneers.
