Qasim Mitchell signed

Monday, March 17, 2008 | Niner Cap Hell

Matt Maiocco reports that the 49ers have signed free agent guard Qasim Mitchell to a contract. We're assuming the pay is at the league's veteran minimum salary since Mitchell has not been active in an NFL game since 2006. The 6-6, 355 lb lineman out of North Carolina A&T was former 49er Maurice Hicks' college teammate that also went undrafted in 2002. He eventually started 16 games over a span of 3 seasons with the Bears. He will likely be competing for one of the last spots on the roster as a backup at both the guard and right tackle spots.

were gonna need a little more help than that at the o-line position. we have 2 outstanding backs.

So this means we pick a guard with our first round pick.

either a guard or we can trade for a stable guard and draft another player
