Ahmad Brooks visits

Meanwhile, former Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks went through a physical examination and visited the team's Santa Clara headquarters on Thursday. The 49ers are among several teams considering whether to pick Brooks in the July 13th supplemental draft. One of his strengths is his versatility, which could allow him to play any of the four linebacker positions in a 3-4 scheme.
The team using the highest draft selection will claim Brooks. He led the Cavaliers in tackles as a freshman and sophomore but appeared in only half of Virginia's games last season while struggling with a knee injury.
Brooks had planned to return to Virginia for his senior season but was kicked off the team in March by coach Al Groh over what were described as "focus, commitment and dependability" problems. He was arrested on allegations of marijuana possession in 2003, though the charge was later dropped. Brooks also drew the coach's ire over his inconsistent class attendance.
