Shaun Hill named NFC player of the week; JJ to IR

QB Shaun Hill was named NFC Offensive player of the week by the NFL following his stellar performance against the Rams this past Sunday. He threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in leading the 49ers to five touchdown drives in the first half and put up a perfect 158.3 passer rating. He finished 15 of 20 for 213 yards. This is the first time that a 49er has been given this recognition since Frank Gore against Arizona in November of 2007.
On the injury front, Jonas Jennings has been placed on IR, likely signaling the end of his 49ers career as it is unlikely the team will keep him after the year. Jennings had an unheralded All-Pro caliber 2006 season where he allowed a league-low 1.5 sacks allowed and league-low 2 penalties combining with Larry Allen to form arguably the most physically dominating left side of the line in the NFL and paving the way for Frank Gore to set a franchise record 1,695 rushing yards. However, Jennings has not been able to stay healthy ever since and has landed on IR for the second season in a row, last year prompting the ugly lockerroom incident where ex-coach Mike Nolan insulted him by crawling on the floor like a paraplegic which drew some grumbling from players about whether Nolan was fit to lead a team. The Niners would save around 3 million in cap space if they decide to terminate the contract next year.
