Martz fired

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that the 49ers have decided not to retain offensive coordinator
Mike Martz. According to earlier reports,
Mike Singletary wanted to retain Martz, but several members of the front office (including
Scot McCloughan) didn't, and followed through today. Under Martz, the 49ers' offense put up respectable numbers and the quarterbacks had several 300 yard games, which hadn't been achieved since
Tim Rattay was at the helm. Is this a smart move? Yes another new OC for the 5th straight year? We shall see. This offense progressed quite nicely under Martz - which might have just been more of a result of having
Alex Smith out of the lineup - and instead having a competent QB in
Shaun Hill.
Rumor is that Martz' previous replacement in St. Louis ex-Rams head coach
Scott Linehan is one of the candidates being considered.
