49ers pulling out all stops for Warner

Monday, March 2, 2009 | Niner Cap Hell

Apparently the 49ers are quite serious about Kurt Warner. The team has pulled out all stops - from a private jet landing in to San Jose Jet Center to a decked out limo to drive the Warners 6.2 miles to the 49ers' Santa Clara home. Perhaps Jed York is following through with his power play to shift the power in the NFC West. Warner is currently in the building interviewing with the front office and coach Mike Singletary. A contract is assumed to have been put forth and Kurt passed his physical at Stanford. The Warners flew back to Arizona and no decision is expected to be made tonight and may be a few days until the team receives his answer.

3/3 UPDATE: According to ProFootballTalk, the 49ers' offer to Warner was comparable to the Cards' and not "considerably bigger" than what Warner and agent Mark Bartelstein are claiming. With Warner continuing to speak out about how he loves being in Arizona, it looks like the so-called interest was indeed as we suspected a ploy to push the Cardinals to ante up their contract offer (currently sitting at $9-12 million per year), which looks like a dismal failure on Warner's part. He'll probably eventually settle instead of donning the Red and Gold.

In ex-Niner news, DT Ron Fields has signed a 2 year, $5 million deal with Denver, reuniting him with Mike Nowin.
