Is it true the 49ers recently turned down Denver's offer of a 2007 first-round pick for guard Justin Smiley? Interesting, interesting.
Smiley sure fits Denver's style of mobile linemen. If the 49ers really did turn down the offer, it tells you they know they can't depend on full seasons from Jeremy Newberry or Larry Allen.
Last year, I speculated the 49ers didn't have a single player worth another team's future first-round pick (Smith only because of his contract). Now they have guards who might be worth it? That's new.

Wow, if this indeed is true, you definately have to question the management's decision on this one. Sure, Smiley is a well-liked player who performed well last season and the team obviously has some injury issues, but we're talking about an extra first rounder here and the team already has a couple of very impressive replacements for him in David Baas and Adam Snyder that both fit Warhop's power drive blocking scheme better than the undersized Smiley does.
