49ers' blocking TE search

Wednesday, March 10, 2010 | Niner Cap Hell

Tight end Anthony Becht, who came in for a visit yesterday, has decided to re-sign with Arizona. The 49ers likely brought him in to offer him a role as the third string blocking TE behind Vernon Davis and Delanie Walker.

According to a league source, the 49ers have shown interest in TE Chris Baker, who brings a more well-rounded game than Becht but probably would demand more playing time than the 49ers would likely give him with Davis and Walker around. Baker was a full-time starter with the Jets and started 7 games with the Patriots in 2009 before being released this offseason. He will be visiting with Seattle and Cincinnati as well. No visit has been set up with the 49ers as of yet.

The 49ers were also interested in Ben Hartsock, who re-upped with the Jets.
