Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports that the 49ers have acquired WR/RS
Ted Ginn Jr. from the Miami Dolphins for a 2010 late-round draft pick. In the past December, the 5'11, 180 lb Ginn was named the AFC Special Teams player of the month award and against the Jets ran back two kicks over 100 yards for touchdowns in the same quarter.
UPDATE: According to ESPN's Mike Sando, the pick is a
5th rounder.
Ginn will be paid $1.035 million in 2010 and $1.394 million in 2011 (eligible for up to $2.9 million in escalators according to Profootballtalk).
From a draft perspective, it was expected after the special teams disaster last season that the 49ers would definitely draft one of the stellar speedsters
C.J. Spiller,
Jahvid Best,
Dexter McCluster,
Jacoby Ford or
Mardy Gilyard amongst their first five picks. While it is still possible as a player like Spiller could potentially give the team a big-time game breaker on offense, if the team dubs him the best player available, the 49ers now have a lot more leway in the first four rounds in terms of selecting the best player available.
