The 49ers signed free agent linebacker
Brandon Long to a two-year contract. Long (6-2, 254 lbs), who played defensive end at Michigan State and put out a tremendous athletic performance at his pro day in 2009 (4.61 40, 32 bench reps, 37.5" vertical, 10'09" broad, 4.37 shuttle, 6.88 3-cone) had agreed to terms with the 49ers last year after going undrafted but failed his physical due to a foot injury. Long will be competing with
Diyral Briggs,
Parys Haralson,
Martail Burnett and
Travis LaBoy for one of the backup spots behind likely starters
Ahmad Brooks and
Manny Lawson at OLB.
