David Carr to be released; Asomugha on the radar

Per Matt Maiocco, the 49ers will release David Carr on Thursday, which will open up $2.3 million in cap space. The team had shown interest in Matt Hasselbeck, who last night agreed to terms with Tennessee. A trade for the Bucs' young backup Josh Johnson could potentially be in the mix, with his familiarity in Jim Harbaugh's offense at University of San Diego and continued close relationship with Harbaugh a factor.
In addition, the 49ers have the Raiders' Nnamdi Asomugha on their radar. Michael Lombardi reports that the "Jets’ main competition for Asomugha right now is San Francisco, and the 49ers are in it strong."
