The 49ers have signed free agent linebacker
Sarth Benoit, who was on the Detroit Lions' practice squad last year and played for the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe this past season.
The Southern Connecticut State product went undrafted in 2005 after impressing NFL scouts during the Cactus Bowl, a Division II all-star game, and his pro day (4.65 40 time, 28 bench reps of 225 lbs, 35 1/2 inch vertical jump, 9'11" broad jump) and was nearly late day two pick. Ted Cotrell (Vikings) quickly pursued him following the draft and he was on the Vikings' preseason roster before being waived and picked up by the Lions.
He probably won't be more than camp-fodder, but he certainly does have the impressive physical talent and work ethic to fight for a practice squad spot.
