Goldson re-signed; R. Smith out with torn meniscus

Humbled after passing on an earlier offer from the 49ers and choosing to test the market, Dashon Goldson re-upped with the 49ers following a visit with the Patriots on a one-year contract worth $2 million.

The re-signing comes after projected starting free safety Reggie Smith tore his meniscus on Saturday. He is expected to be out "a couple of weeks."
